Lohmann has been working with one client for 10 years who anticipates full commercialisation of their new technology this year. The renewable energy market is still very young and the pressure all Governments face to reduce CO2 emissions continues to grow. Lohmann is already a major supplier into the PV (photovoltaic) solar market and is also heavily involved in development work for the fuel cell sector. This type of development in new industry and technology is where Lohmann often brings additional benefits to its customers. Invariably the processing of the materials developed is as important, if not more so than the material, when calculating full life cost savings and efficiency gains.
An automotive customer has used the Lohmann UK team to develop a specific range of products for a specialised application. The challenges have changed over the years and although the customer purchased material from Asia at far lower prices, the decision to return to Lohmann UK as a supply source was taken due to reliability, consistency and local technical support. This shows the commitment of both supplier and customer in the UK to long term partnerships with local manufacturing and sourcing, with added-value service expertise and technical support readily available.
Lohmann Group has grown globally. It provides flexibility to customers who move their production around the world allowing design and development to remain in the UK despite the occasional need to seek short term low cost manufacturing centres outside the EU. We believe that this flexibility and commitment to remaining a key supplier, irrespective of changes in borders, will enable the relationship to continue and the design and IP to remain in the UK, until manufacturing can return.
Lohmann’s adhesive products have been described as “the invisible material that binds everything together.” This is an apt description and is a compliment if our product is not seen but understood to be present – similar to the perfect Victorian child!
Lohmann has prepared the foundations to double its UK business over the next five years. Significant investments have already been made and are continuing to be made in machinery, plant, personnel and an enhanced skill-base. Lohmann is a long term strategic company and aims to become a more significant part of the UK manufacturing sector over the next ten to fifteen years.
