Our company
Samuel Taylor is a manufacturer of precious metal contacts and contact materials. This is a classical European Company run by an owner-manager team where long-term investments in plant, people, equipment and technology are key to the business plan.
Samuel Taylor's long-term approach may be deeply unfashionable but is essential to success in this kind of industry.
The long-term approach is typified by an independent and conservative style adopted financially and culturally. For example overheads are kept to the minimum, income is ploughed back into the business and continuity nurtured. Stability is one of the key factors to the success of STL.
STL uses a diverse variety of core technologies ranging from cold heading to precision foil rolling, but nearly always with precious metal/base metal combinations. Products are custom-made to suit individual applications and needs. STL can add considerable engineering experience into the design in order to help customers keep ahead of their competition.
The business can be traced back to before 1895 and has manufactured and supplied precious and other metals right from those early days over 100 years ago. Samuel Taylor was acquired by the present family in 1899 and is now in its 4th generation of owner-managers.
Samuel Taylor’s long-term approach may be unusual, but it is essential to success in this industry. Our aim is to create and produce the best products possible for each application whilst always being cost competitive.
As a world-class manufacturer, STL has built up an unrivalled reputation for quality products and technical excellence. These products are often complex electromechanical parts produced on highly specialised equipment and tooling. Much of this is designed and customised in-house for our specific needs.
Customer specific solutions in contact and contact material technologies are provided by STL. Our services include technical consultation along with the development and manufacture of complex electromechanical parts and materials for a wide range of uses and industries.
STL supplies customers in over 20 countries including parts of Europe, the Far East, Middle East, South Asia, America and Africa. STL is a truly global supplier with the vast majority of products being directly exported.
The implementation of ISO 9000 systems has resulted in a culture of quality which is, and will remain the cornerstone of STL. The commitment to quality cannot be over-emphasised and runs through all sectors of the Company.
Products
Samuel Taylor is a world-class manufacturer of precious metal contacts and contact materials. The products range from precious metal headed contacts to bimetal composite strip & foil products, details of which follow.
All products are manufactured by STL in-house, using advanced special purpose equipment and quality control procedures. We always aim to provide a first class product conforming to the specified requirements.

Engineering
Engineering is the heart of the Samuel Taylor story. We use a very diverse range of skills linked by good tool-making and engineering skills. This enables the company to provide solutions to complex electromechanical issues. The heading equipment and rolling mills used at STL may seem to be very different in technology but often share the same input materials. These products sometimes compete technically with each other as options for a customer to choose from.
The tool-making business provides press tools for the stamping divisions of the business and outside clients, along with tiny complex shaped carbide dies for the heading machines, and even special tooling for the rolling machines. Thus the links within the business and the experience gained from both ourselves and our world-wide customer base give STL a unique experience in providing workable solutions.

Quality
Samuel Taylor adopted advanced quality planning techniques as a key to the company's success back in the 1980s.
This is confirmed by our mission statement: "Progress through Quality". The framework around which we operate is our quality management system, registered by the British Standards Institution to the international standard BS EN ISO 9001:2000.
Within this framework STL utilises various quality tools to ensure that quality is built into both our designs and processes, these include:
Advanced product quality planning (APQP)
Product part approval process (PPAP)
Design and Process F.M.E.A
Design verification and validation
Design for six sigma manufacturing
Statistical techniques - Preliminary process capability studies (PPK)
Ongoing process capability evaluation (CPK)
Performance measurement
Our project-based teams work to ensure that quality improvement is a continuous process and that waste is minimised.
STL also believe that its employees are core to its success and the STL apprentice scheme ensures a good foundation for the business. Key skills and competence of the workforce have been developed to ensure quality at all stages of our processes. Suppliers take part in the quality planning process and the partnership approach is always used to optimise solutions for all within the supply chain.
Quality is company wide and all key business processes are mapped to identify and eliminate problems. Finally our Quality Policy emphasises our commitment to the highest quality.
It is the policy of STL to achieve total quality excellence in all areas of its activities by an uncompromising determination to conform to all customer’s requirements.
Total quality excellence demands that:
We understand our customersWe identify and understand all of their requirements
We continually work to satisfy each of these requirements on time, every time and error free.
