Subcon 2009, the international exhibition for subcontract manufacturing services, opens for business next week with one of its strongest line-ups ever. The event, which runs from 9 to 11 June at the NEC, Birmingham, features over 280 exhibitors from around the world, including a particularly strong representation from the UK.
Event Director Jon Hughes said: “The reasons for the success of Subcon 2009 are clear. Companies are changing the way they look at what to make themselves and what to buy in. Particularly in times like this when there is a lot of uncertainty in the market, people are turning to subcontractors to take cost and risk out of their own manufacturing operations and give them more flexibility on volumes.”
The manufacturing services offered by exhibitors not only include established areas such as machined parts, fabrications, castings, electronics and plastic moulding, they also encompass high-technology areas such as rapid manufacturing services, ceramics and composite sintered parts.
This year also sees the launch of the MEM Zone, a complementary area within the exhibition focusing on manufacturing equipment and materials.
Visitors to Subcon will also have the opportunity to attend free seminars by invited speakers on key issues for the supply chain – including best practice case studies, new opportunities and technologies, and supplier development.
Subcon 2009 is supported by leading industry bodies, including the National Skills Academy for Manufacturing, which is running special skills-focused seminars and diagnostic sessions in a dedicated skills presentation theatre.
Trade bodies supporting the show include the SBAC (Society of British Aerospace Companies), GTMA, the Confederation of British Metalforming and the Institute of Cast Metal Technology.
Jon Hughes concludes: “Despite the headlines there are many areas, such as aerospace, medical equipment and energy, for example, where British companies are still thriving. To stay successful they need to tap into the skills and advanced production equipment of the world’s best subcontractors – a visit to Subcon allows them to do just that.”
