Large savings on a small component

Faced with an increase in volumes of a product causing a costly bottleneck in production, one of Britain’s leading truck parts manufacturer called in Westley Engineering to devise a solution. The product - an electrical bracket - had been modified so many times that it required six press tools to produce three component parts, which then had to be welded together.

Westley Engineering re-designed the bracket so that it could be formed automatically from a single blank on a progression tool. This eliminated the welding operation entirely, a major reduction in material usage and resulted in a more accurate and consistent product. Not only was the bottleneck removed, costs have been reduced to a third of their previous level, resulting in an annual saving of more than £20,000.
