Midlands manufacturing firm Bird Stevens, are celebrating the manufacturing industry making a comeback in the area, after seeing a steady increase in its presswork projects.
The Quarry Bank based company believes buyers should use this as a prime time to invest in British manufacturing, and are using this year's SubCon 2010 exhibition the NEC as a platform to showcase their work.
Stephen Ruston, Managing Director of Bird Stevens said "We are finding that, very gradually, work previously outsourced to countries abroad is now being brought back to the UK which is providing a much needed boost for the local manufacturing industry.
"We have recently secured a significant contract supplying metal products to a farm in Herefordshire, which previously they have purchased abroad. This is another small indication that production is gradually being brought back to Britain.
"Even though the industry is not as strong as it used to be, this news is very encouraging for British manufacturers like ourselves.
"We hope that by exhibiting our services at this year's SubCon exhibition in our home in the Midlands, it will demonstrate to buyers why they should source their products here and that it is no longer necessary to outsource abroad".
The British manufacturing industry has borne the brunt of the recession with many businesses outsourcing their production overseas to countries including Poland and China in an attempt to save money.
The move however has often proved counteractive with companies facing problems such as long delivery times and unexpected high shipping costs.
The weakening of the pound has also been a major factor in the decision to bring manufacturing back to Britain, as it is no longer as cost effective to outsource elsewhere.
Bird Stevens were recently praised by local MP Lynda Waltho for being a manufacturing company fortunate enough to survive the recession, and the recent surge in the presswork projects will come as another positive outcome for the firm.
The firm will be showcasing their presswork at SubCon 2010 on 8-10 June.
