Richard Hague is Professor of Additive Manufacturing and Director of the Centre for Additive Manufacturing (CfAM) at the University of Nottingham. Having worked in the AM field for over 27 years, he is internationally recognized both for scientific endeavour and creating impact though industrial exploitation where he has a background of leading and managing large multi-disciplinary, multi- partner research projects from both EPSRC and industry. Richard’s research interests are focused on AM specific processes, materials and computational methods across for wide spectrum of industrial sectors with current research programmes focused on next generation multifunctional additive manufacturing. Richard has received multiple international awards and honours and is a co-founder and Director of Added Scientific Ltd, a spin out from the University of Nottingham focused on implementing Additive Manufacturing technical solutions to industry.
Co-founder / Commercial Director
Phill is responsible for the commercial development and roll out of the Magway system, including funding, promotion and engagement across various interest groups and partnerships.
Prior to Magway Phill spent his career in the retail and technology sectors focusing on business development and reverse logistics. He has worked with numerous leading retailers to improve efficiency and value on their returns and clearance goods and processes.
Phill spent a number of years with Deloitte Consulting and Lehman Equity Research providing thought leadership and some of the first written research reports on Software as a Service business models. He is also active in the start-up space assisting various companies with their commercial roll-outs/scale-ups.
Head of coaching
Mark is a Performance Coach specialising in psychological wellbeing, transition management and leadership development. Drawing on his post-graduate qualifications in Psychology and Physiology and 15 years’ experience as a Psychotherapist, Mark works with individuals and teams in organisations across the UK to improve wellbeing and business results.
Dominic Tribe is a Director and automotive sector specialist at top-20 management consultancy, Vendigital. He has a wealth of consulting and industry experience and spent over 10 years with Ford Motor Company and McLaren Automotive in various senior Procurement and Supply Chain roles.
With first-hand experience of managing global supply chains, Dominic has supported multiple vehicle and product launches, as well as low-cost sourcing projects across a wide variety of sectors.
Stephen Phipson CBE
Stephen has been the Chief Executive of Make UK since 2017. He previously spent 5 years as a senior civil servant as of Head of the Defence and Security Organisation within the Department for International Trade delivering export support to UK defence and security businesses, prior to this Stephen was Director for Security Industry Engagement within the Office for Security and Counter Terrorism at the Home Office.
Before serving in the UK Government Stephen spent 35 years in senior roles in the manufacturing industry including 15 years with Smiths Group plc as President of Smiths Detection. Stephen has worked extensively abroad in high technology manufacturing businesses.
Paul is a highly qualified and well-respected Lean and transformational expert who has spent over 20 years guiding companies to excellence. He has been Operations Director of a UK Best Factory Award organisation, has supported four other manufacturers to win that title (one went from s***hole to world class in 2½ years!), and has bought three failed manufacturing businesses and turned them around. He is Managing Director of Manufacturing Excellence and Founder Director of the Lean Consortium.
Advanced Electric Machines
James Widmer is CEO of Advanced Electric Machines Group Ltd which is developing and manufacturing its range of uniquely sustainable electric traction motors for customers around the globe. AEM works with clients in the commercial vehicle, passenger car and aerospace sectors, offering motors which do not rely on rare earth magnetic materials or copper; whilst also offering class leading performance, efficiency and recyclability. AEM has volume manufacturing facilities in the UK, and is working to establish facilities around the globe. James previously led the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK’s Electric Machines Spoke based at Newcastle University (UK), amongst other activities leading the development of the UK car industry’s electric motor technology roadmaps. James has also held senior positions in the aerospace industry, leading large transnational development programmes. James holds the part time post of Professor of Advanced Propulsion in the Institute for Future Transport and Cities at Coventry University (UK).
Kevin, together with various colleagues, founded AMTE Power in 2013. He has over 25 years’ experience within public and private companies and has experience of fund raising and mergers and acquisitions. Kevin qualified as a Chartered Engineer and has worked for and with world leading engineering groups such as QinetiQ, Rolls Royce plc and Siemens AG, and has taken a number of technologies and businesses through concept, design and into production. He is a member of the Faraday Challenge advisory board and has been part of the industry group advising the top tier of UK Government on energy storage.

As the Education and Research Lead for Markforged, Michael ‘Mick’ Goodwin’s mission is to work with educators and industry to help resolve the challenges associated with the broadening digital and engineering skills gap. His goal is to enable students to become the main drivers and future leaders of the Industry 4.0 revolution – and having worked for eight years in the AM industry, he is well placed to help make this happen. Prior to joining Markforged in 2017, Mick studied Product Design at TU Dublin and held lead engineering positions at Mcor Technologies and Irish Manufacturing Research.

Dr Nadia Kourra
Dr Nadia Kourra is an Associate Professor at NMITE where she runs the Mechanics modules, and she is the Academic Lead of the Centre of Automated Manufacturing. Nadia has been working closely with industrial companies for 10 years and has extensive background on the applications of quality inspections and automated image processing. She is enthusiastic to bring companies and higher education institutions together on applied research projects. Dr Kourra completed her EngD and MSc at WMG, University of Warwick where she was funded by BAE Systems and EPSRC, after completing her MEng in Mechanical Engineering at University of Bath.

UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC)
Ian Whiting took up the role of Commercial Director of UKBIC in December 2020. Ian started out as an electronics engineering apprentice and then electronics engineer before moving into Technical Sales and Business Development. He worked for AEA Technology, QinetiQ, Ricardo and AMTE Power as well as energy related consulting before moving to UKBIC. As Commercial Director, Jeff is responsible for business development, sales, marketing and procurement, and also sits on UKBIC’s Executive Committee. The state-of-the-art national battery manufacturing development facility has been developed to support UK industry with development of battery technologies for future electrification.
