Tokamak Energy: The Engineering Challenges of Nuclear Fusion - Tony Langtry, Head of Mechanical Engineering

Tuesday, June 7, 2022 13:30 - 14:00

Tokamak Energy are working to develop a nuclear fusion power plant using a high field spherical tokamak design. Our current device, ST40, has achieved a world first result of 100M degrees, the highest temperature achieved in a spherical tokamak, in just 5 years.

We are continuing to develop our technology, and the next step is to develop a device which uses high temperature superconductors to achieve a sustained high magnetic field. This will allow long pulse operation, and demonstrate the engineering required for future power generating devices.
